Two weeks ago, I pointed you at a worksheet for Calculating the Date of Easter. You’ll be happy to know that there’s also a formula for finding the date of April Fool’s Day. I’ve taken that complicated formula and distilled it into another worksheet that kids can use.
So, before April Fool’s Day rolls around, print off the worksheet, and get your kids to work through it. They should put the year in the box marked ‘Year’, copy numbers along arrows, perform the calculations (remembering order of operations and so forth) and the date of April Fool’s Day will appear at the bottom. It works for any year at all.
If you tried my Easter Date Worksheet, you know the drill. If not, here’s the video showing how the Easter Date Worksheet works.
In all seriousness though – obviously, we don’t need a complicated worksheet to figure out when April Fool’s Day is. So my trick on you is this: can you figure out why my worksheet works?
Have fun, and happy April!
Yours,
Michael Hartley
