Newsletter #15 : Happy New Year!

[This is a back-issue of this website’s newsletter]
This is just a quick email to wish you all the best for the new year. Hopefully the festive season was a good one for you and yours, and you’re all ready for the challenge and excitement of 2009!

Last week I sat down and reviewed the year 2008 with respect to Dr Mike’s Math Games for Kids. When I did so, I was amazed. So many things have happened!

* The number of games and resources on the site went up from the low 40’s to over 50…
* I launched this newsletter…
* My wife started translating the site into another language…
* I gave the site a new (and hopefully better) look…
* And towards the end of the year, most amazingly of all, the site got featured in a real, live newspaper. You can read more at http://www.mmail.com.my/Mad_about_math.aspx (and, more briefly, http://www.mmail.com.my/Passion_for_times_ahead.aspx ). Astounding!

It makes me wonder what 2009 will bring…

So, if you have been working hard at something, plugging away every day of 2008, take the time to remember where you were a year ago. You may be surprised what you’ve accomplished.

Anyway, that’s all for my ‘New Year’ rant… Let me close with a quick note about two pages on the site, one old and one new.

The “15 game” is one of the first games I put on the site. You can find it at http://www.dr-mikes-math-games-for-kids.com/1-to-9-15-game.html with downloads and instructions. Now I’ll throw you challenging puzzle related to this game…

* What is the connection between the “15 game”, Magic Squares, and Tic-tac-toe?

I’ll give the answer in a month or three… 🙂

The new page I want to mention isn’t a new game, but a page linking to some exisiting games. I’ve collected together the three board games on the site, and made a new page linking to them all. It’s http://www.dr-mikes-math-games-for-kids.com/math-board-games.html – I’ll put this page in the website’s menu soon anyway. Also, if you’re a fan of the times table board game or the addition board game, but you aren’t happy with how it comes out on your printer, I’ve found a way to make a professionally printed version of the game board available. See the relevant game pages for details.

Well, that’s all for now, so let me say once again… Happy New Year!

Yours,
Michael Hartley
