It’s been a long tiome since I uploaded a new game to Dr Mike’s Math Games for Kids, but here’s one at last… an April Fool’s Date Calculator.
Just as for Easter, there’s a formula that can calculate the date of April Fool’s Day in any year. I’ve taken that complicated formula and distilled it into a worksheet that kids can use.
So, before April Fool’s Day rolls around, print off the worksheet, and get your kids to work through it – put the year in the box marked ‘Year’, copy numbers along arrows, perform the calculations (remembering order of operations and so forth) and the date of April Fool’s Day will appear at the bottom. It works for any year at all.
If you’ve used my Easter Date Worksheet before, you know the drill. If not, there’s a video here showing how the latter works.
After the kids have figured out April Fool’s Day using the worksheet, be sure to ask them to think about why the worksheet works…
That’s all until the next game!
Yours,
Michael Hartley
