There are three quick items for today’s newsletter – the main one is that I’ve just uploaded yet another set of graph paper to print out.
Triangular Graph Paper This time, it’s triangular graph paper – tesselations of equilateral triangles. Again, the tesselations come in various sizes, from 1 mm to 1 inch. Besides just showing a nice regular pattern, triangular graph paper is useful for graphing relationships between three different quantities whose sum is a constant – for a silly example, you could plot how much you spend on milk, butter and cheese, given a fixed “dairy” budget.
Speaking of graph paper, if you tried to download the Hexagonal Graph Paper I announced last time, the broken links on the page are now fixed! Come to the site and try again!
Last week, I also told you about a new iPhone game in the works. Well, the first version of Black Jelly Bean is now available for iPhone and iPad! More updates to follow…
Bye for now!

I’ll comment further on the replies received from Obama and Romney soon, but for now, here’s what Team Romney had to say on education.

Math is a very visual subject.
I made this ‘meme‘ on a calculus topic, but it applies equally well to a whole bunch of other areas.
Via twitter : Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic often seem to face each other in the semifinals. Too often. This article by Rob Minto tries to explain that the chance of them meeting in any one competition should be 50/50. However, they’ve met 16 times out of 21 instead. Rob asks : is this too many?

Many centuries ago, one of the greatest thinkers of all time wrote a book about some beautiful symmetric shapes. All we know about what he wrote is from quotations by other writers many centuries later. Today, these beautiful shapes are called the Archimedean polyhedra.

Unless you’ve just arrived from another planet, you’d know that an incredibly rare astronomical event recently passed – the transit of Venus.
